Robotic enucleation of the prostate
Surgery performed with the surgical robot through small incisions in the abdomen. The surgeon removes only the core of the prostate (the adenoma) that compresses the urinary channel, preserving the capsule of the gland. It is different from prostate cancer surgery, in which the entire prostate is removed.
Who it is usually recommended for
- very large prostates, generally over 80 to 100 grams;
- when there are bladder stones or diverticula that can be treated in the same operation;
- patients who need complete and long-lasting removal of the obstructing tissue.
In practice
- short hospital stay, usually 1 to 2 days;
- urinary catheter for a few days after surgery;
- less bleeding than traditional open surgery, with a long-lasting result.
